The second tour option, Tour Option 2, continues from on Day 13 of the
basic trip and takes you on the Lake Crossing to Chile.

What is the Lake Crossing?

The Lake Crossing is a combination land and water trip from Bariloche, Argentina to Puerto Montt in Chile.  You are literally sailing across the Andes.  It involves both road and lake crossings, with scenic vistas of
Andean mountain peaks, waterfalls, and wildlife.

Day 13
Beginning the journey, you are picked up at your hotel and driven to Puerto Panuelo.  Then you travel by catamaran across the Blest Branch of Lake Nahuel Huapi.

Another short bus trip takes you to Puerto Alegre, along the shores of Lago (Lake) Frias.  You will then sail Lago Frias and arrive at Puerto Frias, where you will clear Argentine customs.

You then board another bus for a scenic trip of approximately 18 miles, over the Perez Rosales Pass, to the Chilean border post at Peulla.

You then board another catamaran and set out to cross the scenic waters of Lake Todos Los Santos (All Saints).

From the boat you’ll get great views of Mount Puntiagudo and the impressive Osorno Volcano.

The boat will dock at the scenic town of Puerto Varas.

Leaving there, on the last leg to Puerto Montt, you’ll stop at the Petrohue Waterfalls.

Finally, you’ll arrive at the seaside town of Puerto Montt, on the Pacific Ocean, where you can dine on terrific fresh fish in one of the many seaside restaurants.  You’ll spend the night in Puerto Varas nearby.

Day 14
After breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel for a road tour of Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas. Puerto Varas is a nature tourism center and is surrounded by exceptional scenery.

*On the southern shore of Lago Llanquihue facing the perfect cone of Volcán Osorno, Puerto Varas combines the best of the Lake Region’s nature and culture.  Well preserved German architecture reflects this charming town’s history of mid- to late- 19th century immigration; nearby are excellent rivers for fishing and whitewater rafting, ancient temperate rainforests, and the spectacular Lago Todos los Santos. *

After the day’s tour you’ll drive back to your hotel in time for another delicious dinner.

Day 15
After breakfast you will be picked up and transferred to the local airport for the 2-hour flight to Santiago, Chile’s capital.  This tour ends upon your arrival at the Santiago airport.  From there you can travel to another part of Chile, such as the Atacama Desert in the north or Easter island (which belongs to Chile) in
the Pacific.  You can also spend a few days in Santiago and its surrounding. Or, you can elect to fly directly home, without leaving the airport.

We can help you with any of those arrangements.  But, please bear in mind, the cost of the this tour option does include the flight to Santiago from Puerto Montt, but nothing beyond that.
