Recently the world witnessed hunger amidst plenty as prices of staples such as rice spiked beyond the means of the world’s poor. Will the world be able to feed itself? What needs to be done? Derek Byerlee has spent a lifetime working with farmers in many different parts of the world. He is that rare researcher who combines theory with the practical experience gained by his 20 years living abroad in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Derek Byerlee will talk about the practices, environment, trade, and institutional issues surrounding agricultural development.
